Igorrr - "Hallelujah" (2012) - Album Review by SSE

Hello everybody, Jesús Ernesto Vasquez here, bringin' to you my first album review in this blog.
To start with this blog, I'd like to share with you my point of view about Igorrr's "Hallelujah".

As everybody (or somebody) knows, Gautier Serre "Igorrr", is... a very weird musician and producer, with twisted pieces mixing classical and baroque music with Black Metal, Jazz and Breakcore. Yeah, this man is a gold mine for extreme people. (Like me!)

After "Poisson Soluble" (2006), "Moississure" (2008), "Nostril" (2010) and "Baroquecore EP" (2010), everyone was waiting for a miracle, for a sign meaning the return of Igorrr... or a Facebook post saying "Gautier Serre: The Return of Madness". Well... um... the release date of "Hallelujah" was something like that. It was the Star of Bethlehem shining above the head of the people.

But hey... Surprise! The release date of the album was stablished to DECEMBER 12TH, 2012.
YES, THE ALBUM WAS RELEASED THE DAY OF "THE END OF THE WORLD" as some way to show to the people that "the end of the world" wasn't true.

But well, let's check the playlist and give an opinion about some details on the pieces.
This is the playlist:

1.Tout Petit Moineau
2.Damaged Wig
3.Absolute Psalm
4.Cicadidae
5.Vegetable Soup
6.Lullaby For A Fat Jellyfish
7.Grosse Barbe
8.Corpus Tristis
9.Scarlatti 2.0
10.Toothpaste
11.Infinite Loop

1rst POINT: Style and Theme.
Obviously, the style keeps being the same. A guy that mixes Metal with weird vintage music. but... there's something that changes here. There's a huge focus on religious themes. Specifically, Catholic references. The name of the album, the Album's artwork, the names of every song/piece and some samples included. There's a giant influence with classical music, but it's even more aggressive than the first albums of Igorrr. We can clearly hear it on "Absolute Psalm". We can say that Igorrr is criticizing the Catholic religion with music. It's Sathyrical Music. Even the name of the next song: "Corpus Tristis". I don't know if Igorrr is atheist (maybe yes), but he's not hating the catholic religion.

2nd POINT: Sound
As extreme and weird as ever. Strange glitch sounds, fast transitions of styles... there's so much to say in this point.
For example:

- There's a... macabre influence in  "Toothpaste", it sounds like a NINTENDO 64 Horror game (creeeeeeeeepy)
- On "Infinite Loop", the drums begin to get high speed and... it transforms into a simple "synth", that passes through C#, D, D#, E, F... and it ends.
- On "Vegetable Soup"... Igorrr used a new instrument: A CHICKEN.
- In "Grosse Barbe", Gautier experiments with the voice of Laurent Lunoir and his Scream Vocal Range.

And many other things you need to discover by yourself. You seriously need to listen to it (if you haven't)

3rd POINT: Collaborations
This time, Igorrr had the collaboration of various musicians on his songs, with the company from the couple of Laurent Lunoir and Laure Le Prunenec, from Öxxö Xööx.
For example:

- In "Absolute Psalm", There's a collaboration of the guitarist "Teloch", from Mayhem, and the sick GoreNoiseExperimentalCybergrind producer and saxophonist Vincent Goubeau, a.k.a. "MULK"

- In some other songs, we can find the collaboration from keyboardist Benjamin Bardiaux and violinist/string arranger Benjamin Violet.

This people left a little piece from their creations on Igorrr's songs, making us listen to High Quality and Originality music. They deserve so much credit.

FINAL OPINION:
The album is... FANTASTIC It's full of surprises, it's a combination of Soft things with Rude elements of Metal and Breakcore. It's like a mad music teacher, who likes Noise music and mixes them as a witch with a cauldron on Halloween.
There are no words to describe this album. I just can say that, but it's the most spectacular job made by Gautier Serre.

Well, this is my first album review, hope you like it!
There are more album reviews upcoming. So, don't forget to stay signed!

My name is Jesús Ernesto Vasquez, and I'll see YOU... In the next review!

(...um... sorry, Markiplier)
